The Tauntaun is a reptomammal animal species native to the icy planet Hoth in the Star Wars universe. They are bipedal creatures covered in thick white fur, adapted to survive extreme cold environments. Tauntauns are used by the Rebel Alliance at Echo Base as patrol mounts due to their ability to navigate harsh and frozen terrain. The Tauntaun first appeared in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back released in 1980. One of the most memorable scenes involving a Tauntaun shows Han Solo using the body of a dead Tauntaun to keep Luke Skywalker warm after he is injured during the film. This creature is adapted as a display figure for Hoth and Rebel Alliance themed scenes.
